Raglan, Waikato

Soundsplash
January – Annually
Held each year in January, Soundsplash is a boutique multi-genre music festival with a sublime combination of local and international acts over three days. As Raglan’s premier annual music event, Soundsplash has built a reputation on amazing acts, family-friendly atmosphere and fun vibes.
Balloons over Waikato
March – Annually
New Zealand’s largest free event – held each year in March throughout the wider Waikato region. Each morning over five days, the balloons take flight from 7.30am in different parts of the region, flying together to designated areas. Balloons in all shapes, sizes and colours fill the sky – with the event culminating in the renowned Zuru Nightglow where balloons glow to orchestrated music.
Raglan Karioi Trail Event
December – Annually
For those looking for a great physical challenge, the Raglan Karioi Trail event is it. Choose from 24km, 10km and 5km events. Take on the 24km challenge – with an eight-hour time limit and an ascent of “just” 1850m, this one can also be completed by a team. Meanwhile, the 10km event has a 900m ascent. The 5km event is family friendly and caters for participants of any age or fitness level. Held each year in December, the trail run is a favourite of local athletes. Trail shoes and determination are a must!
Pirongia Boxing Day Races
Boxing Day – Annually
More than a century in the making, the Pirongia Boxing Day Races are a local rarity. The Pirongia Golf Course is transformed the week before the event into a horse racing track with curved railing. Come Boxing Day, thousands of people flock to the quaint Waikato village with their picnics crammed full of Christmas leftovers, sun umbrellas and picnic rugs, for a day in the sun. Attractions change each year – from Clydesdales, vintage cars, and children’s activities – and a fun family day for all is always delivered.
