What’s on in New Zealand
Auckland is one of New Zealand’s largest and most exciting cities. It is the main international gateway, a cultural melting pot, and boasts an events calendar so full of thrills, fun, entertainment and family activities, it is hard to narrow it down to five top events you should plan your next holiday around.
North or South of Auckland, Family Parks have you covered with great accommodation options for all travelers. If you are looking to stay in the North, head to one of the region’s favourite areas – Red Beach in Whangaparaoa. Pinewoods Holiday Park is located in the heart of Red Beach and has everything you need; whether you after a family unit, a picturesque place to park the campervan, or pitch your tent. A fantastic spot to stay with children and the park is in one of the prettiest spots in the country.
South of Auckland, Miranda Holiday Park offers eight different accommodation options for your Coromandel highway getaway; great for backpackers, families, groups and couples – and comes complete with the offering of a soak in their thermal pool. From luxury style motel units, to affordable cottages and all-weather camping options, wherever you choose is surrounded by the beautiful natural environment.
Both of these parks offer the perfect accommodation solution away from the hustle and bustle of Auckland, giving visitors the best of both worlds – visit the city to experience your chosen event, then escape back to the peaceful tranquility of a holiday park for the rest of your stay.
You know its summer when the tennis comes to town – the much-anticipated international tennis event of the year, the ASB Tennis Classic is held in Parnell in early January each year, and pulls in strong crowds who watch major international stars battle for supremacy on the court. Off the court, the entertainment continues, with food, fashion and fun all incorporated into the two-week event.

Witness the incredible show of more than 800 lanterns lighting up the sky, combined with music, dance and so many amazing food options to try. It is a family-friendly festival that is worth a visit.
An event that can be experienced all around Auckland, from the north to the south, is the Auckland Arts Festival throughout March each year. You can expect a huge line up of events including opera performances, dance, movies, family events, visual arts and more.
Jump on a ferry and take a day trip to Waiheke Island to experience the wonder that is the 30-plus art installations that come together to create Sculpture on the Gulf – an annual art event on the small island renowned for its laid back, boho feel. Held each year in March, the event runs for a few weeks, allowing many art lovers and intrigued travellers a chance to visit without the rush. For the past 15 years, the outside exhibition has been called different, daring and unexpected, and has built up a strong following. Definitely one not to be missed.
For those with petrol in their veins, the two-day Auckland Supersprint is held annually in November and is one of the country’s biggest motorsports events. The 2.91 circuit has great viewing and challenging corners including a hairpin that all add to the excitement.
