New Zealand Kiwi Birds
New Zealand is the natural home of the unique and fascinating New Zealand Kiwi bird. At Willowbank, protecting and educating the public about this very special, endangered species, is one of our most important roles as a wildlife reserve.
For the best kiwi viewing come to Willowbank and see our North Island Brown Kiwi in the nocturnal house.
This is open at 10.30am everyday. Learn of the kiwi breeding work being achieved at Willowbank with a NZ Kiwi Tour or a Kiwi Breeding Tour(seasonal).
Embark on a journey through New Zealand. See the impact of introduced species in “wild NZ”, meet old live-stock breeds in “Heritage NZ” and enjoy our native wildlife in “Natural NZ” and share our hope for their future.
Maori Cultural Experience
Willowbank is the home to Ko Tane – an authentic Maori cultural experience, that will leave you more knowledgeable, moved and laughing. When you join us for a Ko Tane cultural tour, you will be participating in a memorable evening that not only gives you an insight into pre-European Maori culture and lifestyles, but also passes on tradition and inspiration from the opening Powhiri (greeting ceremony) to the closing waiata (songs).
