With travel restrictions currently in place nationwide and more people spending time at home, there’s never been a better time to do a caravan health check!

There’s nothing worse than hitting the great open road, only to find… you’ve blown a tyre. It’s a sure-fire way to add unnecessary time to your journey and spoil the first leg of your trip, before you’re even underway!

The team at Jayco have some handy tips for making sure your caravan stays spick and span – ensuring you avoid any unnecessary hiccups along the way.

1. Check the tyre pressures

First and foremost, check your tyre pressure to make sure you’re off-setting any chance of a blow-out. You can do this easily at a gas station – or with an at-home compressor.

Be sure to check in both hot and cold temperatures.

2. Wheel bearings

These hidden gadgets are crucial to keeping your caravan on the road – bearing the weight of your vehicle and making sure water and road dust are kept well out of the way.

If you’re unsure on how best to check these, take your caravan down to your nearest Jayco dealer and one of our team will be happy to help you out.

3. Check lights

Whilst you’re doing your maintenance, quickly switch on the lights and check they’re all in running order (front, back, brake lights, reverse lights and indicators). You don’t want to be caught short on the road!

4. Wash the caravan

A good wash will really transform your caravan. Just be sure to close the vents and windows first, to avoid any unnecessary accidents!

5. Water tank health

Water tanks need to be flushed out every six to 12 months to maintain their health. For grey tanks, remember to dump all the water before flushing out with a good cleaner.

6. Get regular services at your nearest Jayco dealer

Finally, remember our staff are always here to help! Pop into your nearest Jayco dealer for a full service to make sure all elements of your caravan are in great working order.
