Moorabool Antiques is one of Australia’s most fascinating Antique Shops, of the old-school ‘Genuine’ type. Located in a historic Middle-Eastern style building, you will find two floors crammed with fascinating items.
With over 10,000 items on show, it is a day’s worth of browsing if you enjoy 19th, 18th and 17th century antiques from all over the world. There is an Antiquity department, with Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Oriental pieces that go back thousands of years. Natural History goes further, with fossils hundreds of millions years old.
Founded in 1958 by John Rosenberg, Moorabool is now a second-generation business, and has the largest stock of genuine Antique ceramics in Australia. Their expertise in ceramics are based on over 60 years of experience, often contributing to publications and research on the history of ceramics.
An important part of this is the ‘Reference Collection’, a library of over2,000 books on ceramics plus 2,000 documentary pieces collected to illustrate every possible place, period, maker and style.
Moorabool is in central Geelong, with street parking all around and a one-block stroll to the Geelong Station. From Melbourne, the train journey is just under one hour, departing Southern-Cross-Station.
