Harrow Discovery Centre and Johnny Mullagh Interpretive Centre

Attractions

Nestled in the rolling hills of Victoria’s Western District on the banks of the Glenelg River, the Harrow Discovery Centre is the heart of Victoria’s oldest inland settlement.

More than a visitor centre, the centre will take you on one of the most incredible journeys in Australian history.

In 1868, a team of Aboriginal stock workers from south-west Victoria, were transformed into Australia’s first international touring sports team to England.

Almost 150 years on, the centre is dedicated to telling their story and in particular that of their best all-rounder, Johnny ‘Unaarrimin’ Mullagh.

A rabbiter and shearer, Johnny Mullagh delivered more than 1,800 overs to the best batsmen in the world at the time with an average of 1/10.

Join in and follow the amazing journey and learn of the unbelievable achievements of Australia’s First XI.

In addition to the centre’s Indigenous cricketing history, the band of volunteer staff has several touring programs to offer to guests, including the award-winning ‘You Must Remember This … ‘.

The centre is a true destination for sport and history buffs, alike.
