Flinders Mussels is a boutique aquaculture enterprise that prides itself on producing high quality blue mussels in a beautifully unique environment. For over twenty years, in the Flinders Aquaculture Fisheries Reserve, mussels have been harvested from the ropes upon which they grow from late December until the depths of winter when spawning occurs.
The environment is dynamic, making the mussels thrive. Fed by the tides entering and exiting Westernport Bay, the ropes swing back and forth with each swell rolling in from the Southern Ocean via Bass Strait.
Flinders Mussels trades seasonally from late December until mid-winter, when the mussels are on.
Harry has supplied mussels directly to the general public from his boat, the Seahorse, at the Flinders wharf since 2000. Mussels are out of the water in the morning, on to your plate for lunch or dinner.
To add to the Flinders Mussel experience, Harry opened a food van in 2016 called the Flinders Conchilia (the Conch). Located in the carpark of the Flinders foreshore, you can find Harry cooking and serving his finest for you to eat, by the beach.
Harvesting is weather and rainfall dependent and available seasonally. Check Flinders Mussels Instagram for updates.
