Health Records Before You Travel

Tips for Health Records Preparation

We’d all like to think that we will stay fit and healthy on our travels, but you may find that at some stage, you will need to see a doctor or go to hospital.

When you are traveling, it can save you a lot of stress and ‘running around’ if you have an up-to-date copy of your health records with you. There are a couple of options available to do this:

  • Before you leave, you can visit your GP, pharmacist and other health professionals to get all of your health records put onto a USB stick. Just keep this in a safe place and it will be on hand when you need it.

  • The Federal Department of Health and Aging offer eHealth records. This is a secure, online summary of your health information. Doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in your care will be able to access a summary of your key health information – you just need to give any practitioners authorisation to add their records to your file. As you travel, your eHealth record can then be quickly and easily accessed online by authorised health professionals.
