Auckland & Surrounds

The bustling metropolis of Auckland and its scenic surrounds is the perfect destination for your next New Zealand getaway.  Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city and its airport is the main gateway for International visitors.  Underlying much of the city is a dormant volcanic field which gives Auckland its unique landscape.  There are a number of accessible volcanic summits for visitors of all ages offering some of the best views over the city and beyond.

A trip to Auckland wouldn’t be complete without checking out the magnificent gems that surround the city.  Just over an hour north of Auckland is Matakana, a boutique village fast making a name for itself as a gourmet, ‘slow food’ destination producing organic and local food.  The Matakana Coast is dotted with scenic bays and beautiful beaches, the perfect location for those wanting rest and relaxation but within arms-reach of big city attractions.  It is here, situated next to a reserve and right on the water’s edge of Whangateau Harbour you will find Whangateau Holiday Park.

The park is conveniently located on the Twin Coast Discovery Highway making it an ideal stopover while you explore the stunning coast area. Visit nearby Goat Island Marine Reserve, Matakana's endless list of attractions, Kawau Island and much more. The park is the proud recipient of a Qualmark Enviro-Bronze Award in recognition of its sustainable tourism practices. Park facilities include two communal kitchens, covered BBQ area, games, TV and dining room, coin-operated laundry, WIFI throughout the Park as well as an internet kiosk, shower blocks with hairdryers, and a full mother’s room including baby bath, junior toilet and change table – perfect for those travelling with young ones!

Whangateau Holiday Park offers a number of accommodation options but for the true Kiwi camping experience you would be remiss to not treat yourself to a waterfront camp site.  Surrounded by native Pohutukawa trees offering much needed shade in the summer months, these sites afford spectacular views across the harbour during the day, and the tranquillity of water lapping against the foreshore as you settle in for the evening.

The friendly staff pride themselves on making every guest feel welcome and this is reflected in the customer feedback the Park receives “I love the friendly welcome, the beautifully kept gardens and the cleanliness with good quality equipment. Have stayed here on numerous occasions and always return because of the well-run immaculate facilities and very pleasant managers” says one satisfied guest.

With a wide choice of activities on offer, both land and water based; award winning dining and vibrant nightlife, Auckland and its surrounds really does have something to please the whole family!
